Pen Hatching Variations in Drawing Bird Nests

Continuing the difficult task of rendering techniques I find work well in drawing nests. It’s a fun and frustrating problem. In this drawing I solely relied on fountain pen. This is a more typical nest in that it’s what most of us picture when we hear the word. I realized nests can be thought of as an alternating series of boxes in bowls wrapped in string. This makes it challenging to not fall into the details. In this drawing I tripped more than fell in-between what it looks like and the artistic expression of a nest.
