Drawing a Small, Slate Colored Bird with Fountain Pen and Grey Ink

Love for the Dark-eyed Junco

Inspired by a freshly opened bottle of Iroshizuku Kiri-same and newly arrived Pilot Custom Heritage 74 demonstrator in Blue Stone, I draw the slate-colored Dark-eyed Junco.  The pen has a bold nib, my first, showing off the shading on the excellent grey ink.

Materials

Metallic trill. Unified pitch vibrating thin, low hanging branches in the cold and isolated winter days. All the cold colors of gray. The warmth of lively chitter, quick darts, and jumps in numbers that match the group. All at once.

Cute. Plentiful at over 630 million. Slate-colored Dark-eyed Juncos always found in bunches. El Junco Ojoscuro. Born long before across shores. Belonging here long after. They are known throughout North America and Mexico.
